Based in Pateley Bridge in the heart of Nidderdale, Hawkesworth Coal was established in 2013 by Darren Brown. Darren had learnt his trade whilst working for his Father in the family coal business in Northallerton, initially this was in the school holidays and on a Saturday but after starting his A-levels, Darren realised his passion was coal and subsequently joined the family business on a permanent basis!!

R.M. Hawkesworth & Co had been running the coal business, alongside their road haulage and milk tanker businesses, from the Station Garage Yard since the 1940's but due to ill health, Darren took on the fuel business from Roger and Shirley Hawkesworth in 2013 when they retired. This is when Hawkesworth Coal was born!

Darren is assisted by local lad Lee Marsland who was born and raised in Pateley along with our newest recruit Jonny Rayner who joined Hawkesworth's in October 2020. Darren's wife Louise helps with the running of the business, dealing with enquiries and the accounts. Holly the Border Terrier is also part of the team and can usually be found asleep by the roaring fire in the office!
